Hinterberg Stretch Frame

The Hinterberg Stretch frame is an excellent piece of equipment for you to start out with. It will accomodate your domestic machine until you are ready to upgrade to the FunQuilter. Nolting were so impressed with the Hinterberg Stretch frame that they modified of the FunQuilter to fit. The variations are special axles and an extended power cord that is long enough to reach the ground.

These sturdy wooden frames come to you as a compact kitset in a box. You have the opportunity to stain the pieces before assembly if you wish. The package also contains a comprehensive manual and an instructional DVD to help with assembly. The table has a sturdy middle leg and height adjustable throat space. Also included is a battery-powered laser and four pony clamps. There is also a neat set of grooved templates that fit together jigsaw fashion to form the table top. Although there is a paper pattern laid out in the picture below you can make out the wooden stylus bar clamped on a brown bar on the side of the machine. This device is not only fully adjustable to enable you to position the laser anywhere you wish but it also carries an arrangement that allows you to drop down a pin into the aforesaid grooves. This resticts the movement of the machine so that it must follow those grooves routed in the table top which is excellent for sewing accurate borders and sashes.

To complete the components you will need five lengths of 38mm diameter steel pipe of 2mm wall thickness for the tracks and the rollers. These may be cut to any length you choose up to 10 feet long. The three rollers will need leaders of some stout material attached: recommended is 8-10oz duck. There is an excellent guide on the DVD dealing with how to attach leaders to the rollers.

If you’re not too keen on the thought of providing the tracks and rollers yourself, Mike can do this for cost of materials plus labour. The pipe will be powdercoated in a colour of your choice and the leaders overlocked all round and either hemmed or with zips attached on the front edge.
