Nic Bridges will be presenting a half-day hands-on class from 1:00pm to 4:30pm at the Victoria Room in the Town Hall. Limited to eight students and entitled "Arty-Farty Free Motion Techniques".

Saturday 24th July (private hands-on classes and hall set-up)

Pam Clarke offers two half-day hands-on classes at the Quiltique studio from 9:00am to 12:30pm and from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Limited to eight students per class.  Make your own copy of Pam’s Background Frenzy Sampler.  See the full class description on the Tutors page.

Nic Bridges will be repeating Friday afternoon’s Arty-Farty class from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Victoria Room. Eight students. Cost $85 a head.

Hall set-up for Sunday’s quilt show will happen on the Saturday afternoon. If you intend to hang a quilt, could we please have it before or during this time. There is also a small window for quilt delivery - by arrangement with Linda Young - from 8:00 to 9:30 on the Sunday morning.

Sunday 25th July (private hands-on classes, Quilt Show, Registration, Welcome)

Nic Bridges will be repeating Saturday afternoon’s class on Machine Trapunto at the Victoria Room. Start at 9:00am, finish at 12:30pm. Eight students maximum.

John Nielsen offers a half-day class on new computer drawing software Art & Stitch from 9:00am to 12:30pm upstairs at the Quiltique studio.

Pam Clarke will repeat her Friday half-day class Fearless Beginnings to Free-Motion Quilting for eight lesser experienced quilters at the Quiltique Studio. Start at 9:00am, finish at 12:30pm.

Linda Young will be presenting practical classes from 1:00pm at the Quiltique Studio. For two students at a time, these one hour classes address the tension adjustment problems faced by beginning quilters. Learn what to do about changing threads and re-adjusting tensions.

In all hands-on classes except those on the IQ there will be four Nolting Longarm machines set up on two 12’ tables. Each student will share the use of one machine in classes of eight. Tea and coffee will be available.

Applications for these classes will be taken on a first-come first-served basis but must be accompanied by the minimum $50 deposit if not already paid. Direct credit to 03 1568 0220510 000 is preferred (please indicate who you are) or we can take cheques. We do not have credit card facilities. Australian attendees may make direct credit payments to BSB 06 3108 Acct 10435632 - again with identification. Places will be confirmed by e-mail. Should demand be greater than allowed for here, all tutors may consider offering more classes on Thursday 22nd.

If there is another topic or tutor that you would like to request, tell us about it and we’ll see if it can be arranged.

Showcase of Professional Machine Quilting

The Town Hall doors will be open to all from 10am to 4pm Sunday 25th July. Entry fee: a gold coin. This will be our display showing the public just what longarm quilters can do. By emphasis on the ease, speed, and cost-effectiveness of using a professional quilter we aim to raise the profile of our industry. We are interested in displaying all styles of quilting from the simple mechanical holding-together of three layers to the works of art that several talented people are producing. Pantographs - plain or complex, hand- or computer-guided - freehand feathers, fillers and flounces - blocks, borders and more. The success of this venture will depend very much on what quilts conference attendees present. The quilting on entries must be work of the entrant. Borrowing a customer’s quilt is fine if you would like to do that. Larger quilts should have velcro loops (the softer side - not hooks) attached to the top edge for purposes of hanging.

               Categories

  • Exhibition Only - general attendees, not for voting or judging
  • Special Exhibitions of OverseasTutors’ work and work by Linda Young
  • Competition Work

As an incentive for you to display your work we are offering sponsored prizes in two categories: a Viewers’ Choice of quilts hung for competition, and the Challenge Category to be judged by our overseas tutors.

Nolting Manufacturing Inc of Iowa have generously offered $200NZ cash as first prize in the Viewers’ Choice category.

The winner of the Challenge category will earn a $200NZ cash prize donated by Kasa Engineering Services (makers of Intellistitch and IntelliQuilter).

No quilter will be elegible for prizes in both sections. Quilts for hanging can be accepted only from those attending the conference.

Linda Young has offered to take charge of everything to be hung. Items for display should be forwarded to her in the week of 19th to 23rd July. Alternatively ... we will be setting up the hall on Saturday 24th after noon and should you wish to bring along your own quilts that day, please let Linda know by phone or e-mail beforehand. All display items will have the quilter’s business card attached. This will allow viewers the opportunity of identifying just who does the sort of work that appeals.

Registration of conference attendees is to be at the Cambride Town Hall from 10AM onwards on this day.

Should merchants wish to open their stands for the quilt show and the Opening ceremony following , everything must be set up and ready to go before 10am Sunday (Saturday set-up is recommended). There will be no time available for merchants to set up their stands between the Quilt Show and the Opening. Late set-up will be permitted after the Opening.

 Welcome and Official Opening

Following immediately after the Quilt Show, wine & cheese will be served at the Cambridge Town Hall from 4:00pm onwards. A welcome and official opening will take place around 5:00pm and we would love it if everyone could be there. Come meet, greet, and mingle. Enjoy the wine and listen to the welcome and introduction of tutors. Merchants will be open for business. Get hands-on with some of the machines. When you feel it’s time, explore Cambridge’s fine eateries with your friends. Be sure to get an early night as we must all be back at the venue by 8:45am next morning. The day’s announcements and draws for the odd spot-prize will take place prior to the first classes which start at Monday 9:00am sharp.

What to Do Now

You need to let us know your chosen programme. Although we would prefer if this came by e-mail (see instructions below) we recognise that it would be much simpler to print the last section and send it by snail-mail to us at 15 Duke St, Cambridge 3434, New Zealand.

Printing the Form:
Highlight everything between the two big red crosses (left-click on one cross and move mouse to the other cross where you hold down the Shift key and left-click again), hold down the Ctrl key and press P. The printer control box will pop up. Choose the "Selection" option in the lower left sector of the box. Push Print and you’ll get just the highighted section on your printer.  For each day you should decide which course is the most important to you in each column. Use an real highlighter to signal which class you wish to choose in each column. If you find yourself missing out on something you really wanted to go to, please let us know and we’ll try to fix it. Priority of choices will go to attendees who have paid at least the $50 deposit.

Letting us know by e-mail:
Highlight everything between the two big red crosses . Right-click in the highlighted area, select COPY from the box that appears, go to your e-mail program and open a New Message, right-click in the message body and choose PASTE. The timetable will appear in the new e-mail and you may edit it. For each day you should decide which course is the most important to you in each column. Either delete all other options in that column or put a cross in the thin columns beside your choices. Address the e-mail to conf@quiltique.co.nz and put your name in the Subject Line. We will acknowledge all e-mails so if you don’t hear from us in a day or two please try again or give us a ring on (07) 827 8689.

Computer-Challenged?
Give us a ring on (07) 827 8689 and we’ll send you a form to fill in and return. Australians should dial 0011 647 827 8689.
